In this Environmental Science Course we will study the earth and its ecological interactions. We will also discuss current environmental issues that we face in the world today and how we might resolve the issues.
The first semester will include:
A Study of the Earth, in order to develop an awareness of the environment by presenting the Earth as the only known viable habitat for people and other organisms.
An introduction to Basic Ecological Interactions and Concepts that frame environmental studies.
A Study of the Different Biomes, which will provide a summary of the climatic conditions, plants and animals that characterize the world¡¦s terrestrial and aquatic biomes.
A Study of Current Environmental Issues and how they relate to people.
The second semester will include:
Exploration of Energy Resourses the ways people use energy, energy sources being investigated and possible alternatives to fossil fuels.
Land and Water Resources: The earth¡¦s land and water resources will be explored.
Managing Human Impact: Global issues, such as Loss of habitat, maintenance of biodiversity, attaining a sustainable environment and protection of the environment for future generations will be addressed.
Students will be expected to participate in laboratories and field studies, find and summarize four articles which address a current environmental issue each quarter, and maintain a notebook.
Ready to begin? This year we will investigate some of the current environmental issues, such as off shore drilling, global warming, and alternative energy resources and how they may impact the survival of the planet. I'm looking forward to an exciting new school year!!
